2024: A Year of Transformation, Exploration, and Creativity

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s clear that this year has been marked by change, exploration, and fresh perspectives. From the way we celebrate love, to the places we travel, and even how we express our creativity, 2024 has been a year that encouraged new approaches and unforgettable experiences. Let’s take a look at the key events and trends that defined this year.

The End of Traditional Weddings and the Rise of Elopement Photography

One of the most significant cultural shifts in 2024 has been the end of traditional weddings —at least in the way you’ve known them. For years, weddings have been large-scale affairs, complete with extensive guest lists, elaborate venues, and complex arrangements. However, a new wave of couples is choosing intimacy over spectacle, and elopements are on the rise. This transition has redefined how we celebrate love, with many couples opting for smaller, more personal ceremonies, often in beautiful, remote locations.

Alongside this trend, elopement photography has flourished in 2024. Photographers have adapted to this change, specializing in capturing authentic, heartfelt moments for couples in stunning, unconventional settings. From mountaintops to secluded beaches, the focus is now on raw emotion and intimate connection, with couples desiring imagery that reflects their unique love stories rather than grand, formal poses. The shift away from large, traditional weddings to more intimate elopements is not just a trend, but a reimagining of what a wedding can be.

This is why I have taken the decision to move away from the traditional wedding photography and move towards the elopement photography where my sense of adventure can mix with my love for photography.

Discovering new locations

May : Weekend Trip to Saint-Brieuc

Another favorite weekend destination in 2024 was Saint-Brieuc, a charming port town in the Brittany region of France. Known for its rich maritime history and beautiful natural surroundings, Saint-Brieuc offers visitors a blend of coastal beauty, French heritage, and vibrant culture.

A weekend in Saint-Brieuc meant exploring the picturesque Plage des Rosaires, admiring the architecture of the Saint-Brieuc Cathedral, and enjoying the region’s famous seafood. The Côte de Granit Rose (Pink Granite Coast) also drew visitors who appreciated the stunning rock formations and coastal hikes. Whether it was a quiet stroll through the old town or a visit to the local art galleries, Saint-Brieuc provided the perfect combination of relaxation and cultural discovery for a peaceful, rejuvenating weekend in 2024.

August : Weekend Trip to Toulouse

For many, 2024 was the year of the weekend getaway, with short trips offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One standout destination this year was Toulouse, also known as "La Ville Rose," for its distinct pink terracotta buildings. Toulouse offers a mix of history, culture, and southern French charm, making it an ideal weekend destination.

Visitors strolled through the Capitole de Toulouse, visited the Basi Lique Saint-Sernin, and dined on regional specialties like cassoulet and duck confit. Toulouse is also known for its proximity to beautiful countryside and vineyards, making it a perfect spot for those looking to combine urban exploration with a touch of nature.

September : Weekend Trip to Avignon

Another cultural gem that drew travelers in 2024 was Avignon, the historic city in the Provence region of southern France. Famous for its stunning Palais des Papes (Palace of the Popes) and the iconic Pont Saint-Bénézet, Avignon is a city that combines rich history with vibrant contemporary culture.

A weekend in Avignon in 2024 often included strolling along its medieval streets, visiting the Musée Calvet, and soaking in the Provençal atmosphere. The Avignon Festival, one of the world’s largest theater festivals, brought a lively energy to the city, with performances in the streets and theaters, making it a perfect time for arts and culture lovers to visit. For those seeking a mix of history, culture, and sunshine, Avignon proved to be an unforgettable weekend destination in 2024.

Lots of Brand-New Photoshoots

2024 was also a year of creative energy, and brand-new photoshoots were at the forefront of this creative boom. Whether for fashion, portraits, or personal milestones, photography in 2024 saw an explosion of new concepts and fresh perspectives.

This year, photographers embraced storytelling and authenticity, capturing not just moments, but emotions. Outdoor sessions in natural settings gained popularity, with couples, families, and individuals seeking more intimate, personalized images. Photographers also experimented with new techniques, blending editorial photography with more organic, documentary-style shots. With a focus on raw emotion and true-to-life moments, 2024 was a year where the art of photography evolved into a deeply personal and creative endeavor.

Instagram Redesign

The digital world also saw its own transformation in 2024 with the highly anticipated Instagram redesign. In response to the dominance of platforms like TikTok, Instagram revamped its interface, placing a stronger emphasis on short-form video content and immersive storytelling.

I have just unveiled a fresh new look on Instagram, focusing on immersive storytelling through vibrant visuals. The account now features "New Adventure" and "Travel Reels," offering a dynamic peek into breathtaking destinations around the world. In addition to the reels, a redesigned Instagram Story layout brings a sleek, modern feel to each post. The updated aesthetics highlight the essence of each journey, making followers feel like they're right there in the moment.

Last Year in Cassis, France

For many, 2024 marked the last year of experiencing the idyllic charm of Cassis, a small coastal town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. Known for its calanques (rocky inlets), turquoise waters, and picturesque harbor, Cassis has been a beloved destination for those seeking a tranquil Mediterranean escape.

After having spent three summer seasons with Les Roches Blanches (a beautiful 5-star hotel - discover the blog post here), my adventure has come to an end.

This year, Cassis seemed to be at a crossroads, with changes in local tourism and development affecting the town’s quiet, timeless atmosphere. Despite these changes, visitors continued to flock to Cassis for its stunning views, excellent wine, and relaxed seaside lifestyle. The small town’s natural beauty, coupled with its proximity to the Calanques National Park, made it a perfect escape for nature lovers and those looking to unwind by the sea. 2024 will forever be remembered as a year in which Cassis offered its unique charm for the last time, before it likely undergoes transformations in the future.
